Junior High Life

WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT

saint_philomena_gallery0020Our Junior High Life program is designed for 7th and 8th grade students. Classes meet on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:45a.m. The classes follow the curriculum established by the Archdiocese of Mobile and attempt to respond to faith and developmental needs of our youth, reaching them on four levels: spiritual, emotional, educational, and social.

The two year course of study centers on Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life and the Church Then and Now.

We also provide opportunities for our youth to participate in service projects and social activities. We want to instill the belief that the Church is the People of God, moving toward and helping to build the Kingdom of God. Our journey involves our whole being-minds, hearts, and hands. Typically, there will be one service and one social event each month, outside of class time.  For more information contact Jolynn Coiro 334-365-8680, This email address is being protected from spambots. St Joseph Homeschool

rocks

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of St. Joseph Homeschool is to serve families choosing to educate their school age children at home in compliance with Alabama law. SJH provides home schooling families with a structure of support and services for academic excellence and for living the Catholic faith in the home and society.

PHILOSOPHY:

The teachings of the Catholic Church, in accordance with the Magisterium, are central to St. Joseph Homeschool's identity. Pope John Paul II wrote "the parents have been appointed by God Himself as the first and principal educators of their children".  As Catholic home educators, we have chosen to embrace that responsibility and dedicate ourselves to the education of our children.

The family is the basic unit of the church and society. Therefore,

a.  The home is the initial and primary environment for the education and the nurturing of the faith of its members.

b. Parents have the primary duty for the spiritual and academic education of their children.

c. Parents must continue to deepen their faith and education so that they may pass that faith and knowledge to their children.

St. Joseph  Homeschool provides record keeping, information on Catholic curriculum, a monthly e-newsletter and support for home school families in the Prattville area. Member families submit an annual curriculum plan, attendance records and progress reports each semester.
